Pleasure is my Business reaction
Feb. 26th, 2009 01:59 pmOkay, firstly some idiot posted uncut spoilers last night. I caught a post on the main CM comm to that just said "*spoilers below*" and no cut too. Thankfully, I stopped reading. I'm sorry for those who were spoiled, though. I hate that shit. To be truthful, I avoid them to the point that I really don't even like subject lines and cut tags with vague references. About five people on my flist used a subject line/cut tag with the name of a character that was awesome in last night's ep in it, and that happens all the time. I suppose I shouldn't complain, as I know that is pretty commonly accepted as okay. I don't even like moods selected that might give away if an episode was good or not, so perhaps my aversion to spoilers far exceeds most people's. Can't really ask for change when I am the one so far out of step with the majority, can I? Heh.
Pleasure is my Business reaction
1. I was sort of surprised at JJ's level of involvement. Does she normally give the profile? Have I not paid attention before? I admit, she was hardly on my radar until recently, but it struck me as odd.
2. Reid + Vest = YUM. I've said it before, but I will probably say it every time he wears one. For serious.
3. Speaking of Reid, was he acting strangely to anyone else? The one person I asked didn't notice, but there was a point when the team was talking something out that he rubbed his eyes and looked tired, much the same way he did during the drug episodes. He also got flustered with the madam, and sexual things usually don't get to him so much. On top of that, he just... seemed strange. If you watch him when they're briefing the lawyers, you may see it.
Or maybe I'm crazy and looking for things once he did that tired face rub thing. I personally would love it if he relapsed. And this is coming from someone who is getting the point of thinking they are piling too much shit on him, too. I would really like to see drug addiction dealt with realistically, though, and the way they just dropped it in season two and didn't revisit it until a year later seemed off. Most people with drug addictions relapse. Most of them struggle and fight and fail, and if they're lucky to be strong enough, they try again.
I know that on a show like this it's difficult to work in storylines like this, but the show handles so many other issues so delicately--mental illness, for one--that it felt like that drug issue was a throw away one, only to be brought up again when the writers feel like it.
I'll get off my soapbox now.
4. Blood spatter on face. Is it weird that I sort of thought that was beautiful?
5. This may be an unpopular opinion, but Haley earned points from me. It seems to me she's sending Hotch videos of Jack. I suppose it's possible that he took it himself (there's no way to tell if it's an email), but the way Jack says "hi dad" seems like someone else is taking the video. If daddy was already there taking the video, Jack would have already said hi to him, right?
6. Hotch! Mmm. I'm sure everyone else has said almost all there is to say, so what I'm going to say is that every time there's a Hotch ep, I love Thomas Gibson even more. The scene on the phone was great, the team all looking sympathetic. They all love him so much. But even listening to the call again, the tiny little strains of pain on Hotch's face, then that last scene. Ungh, so BRILLIANTLY acted. *luffs him*

Date: 2009-02-27 02:53 am (UTC)*cackles long and into the night* Oh, man, the return of the druggie!Reid would be, like, confirmation for me that there is a God, and he loves me. Or something of that nature. I might offer sexual favors to the writers ... ;)
WHY AM I SUCH A TERRIBLE HUMAN BEING?!?!

Date: 2009-02-26 08:43 pm (UTC)And a big fat Word on spoilers. I hate it. It used to bug the hell out of me on the CM yahoogroup - spoiling fans is just bad manners and there's no excuse for it.

Date: 2009-02-26 09:59 pm (UTC)4. Not weird at all. That was a gorgeous shot.
5. I'm pretty sure Haley took that video - before he says "Hi dad" he says something that sounds rather like "look mom, look what I can do." Personally, I sort of grudgingly have a kind of decent opinion of Haley. I just can't hate her, especially not when things like this happen, or when she lets him see Jack at dark-thirty at night after the case in "Seven Seconds."

Date: 2009-02-27 02:00 am (UTC)I like the think that Reid may have been slightly out of character because of his concern for Hotch. Hotch was caught in a gigantic politically charged case, missing his son, and chasing a female unsub that was...fixated is too strong a word, but definitely preoccupied with him.
We could also assume that the eye rubbing was due to lack of sleep because they were trying to solve the case as quickly as possible and were dealing with uncooperative people.

Date: 2009-02-27 07:21 pm (UTC)I've also noticed that he seems less embarrassed about sexual topics when he is able to use knowledge regarding their history, etc, to show intellectual knowledge. He seems to be a bit more hesitant when he is talking to a person about their specific sexual encounters.
I think he could have also been uncomfortable about playing "the married couple" with Prentiss. Kind of like, "why do I have to pretend to be married to my sister?".

Date: 2009-02-27 02:48 am (UTC)Also him getting flustered when talking to the madam was kinda odd (if very cute) because im pretty sure he was discussing Ed Gein quiet happly in Cold Comfort and he was way creepyer than anything the clients would have asked for.

Date: 2009-02-27 02:52 am (UTC)That being said, I often wonder (at least once a day, BECAUSE I AM THIS LAME!) what they are going to do with Reid next. Each year, he seems to get at least one episode related to him and his issues, and they've already done up the drug line as much as possible, and this year was with his parents ... who knows? A relapse would be best, in my opinion, because
I want to see Reid sufferit's the most realistic option at this point, but meh ...I noticed that Reid seemed really off in the scene with the Madame, and as much as I wish that it was something big and meaningful, I really suspect that it was the writers being sloppy and going for the "Reid is a big ole' nervous virgin" line. But then my inner Reid/Prentiss shipper got started, and then it went all downhill from there ... ;)

Date: 2009-02-27 02:11 pm (UTC)Also, I don't see him as using again unless he found a different place to inject, since he's wearing shirts with the sleeves rolled up in this ep, which would increase the risk of a co-worker noticing the marks. Unless he's doing it because he wants to be caught.
Anyway. Enough wierd musing from me. Too early in the morning over here.
Although I must add that Reid +pants low on hips + pocket watch fob = damn sexy in that penthouse raid.

Date: 2009-02-27 03:50 pm (UTC)3) He looked really tired. I was expecting something about that. It was intentional, so I assume the writers want to let it in the story. And yes, drugs are possibly the reason -it would be fine, it's important to the character.
5) Yesss, I thought the same. I don't like Haley, but she's in contact with Hotch because of Jack and it makes him happy! :D I think she took the video.

Date: 2009-03-02 02:24 pm (UTC)I agree he was flustered with the madam and normally that wouldn't have gotten to him. He talked to the prostitute in Vegas just fine (I guess one could argue that he was distracted by the stuff going on with his father but if anything I would think that would make me more uncomfortable around people he didn't know but that's just me....) I mean, yeah, put him in a social situation where he's trying to attempt flirting (or someone flirts with him) and he'll get nervous but when it's for a case he doesn't seem to have the same problem talking to people.
Also, I thought it's been odd that he's so jittery during the profile presentations with local law enforcement. He can't seem to stand still during those and there's some odd anxiety in him I feel as of late.
I don't know. I just think there's been something off and like you I wonder if he's had some sort of relapse or is on the brink of one.
Moving on...this episode was a lot of OMG HOTCH! and OMG REID IN A VEST! for me. :)
