From the reaction posts I'm reading, I'm pretty sure I am the only one in the fandom that didn't really like Omnivore. *sigh* I mean, it was fine, you know, but not anywhere near as good as the few episodes before it. Maybe I'm too critical. Maybe I got caught up in the "ZOMG HOTCH EPISODE!" hype and built it up in my head. I don't know. All I know is that it left me sort of cold. Pleasure is my Business was a WAY better Hotch ep, IMHO.
First off, I sort of loathe cliffhanger endings. I expect it for season finales, of course, and that's OK, because I expect it, and it's standard practice. Bloodline was okay because they got the bad guys of that ep. I thought the end was a great twist, but it didn't feel like a storyline that the BAU needed to continue. It didn't even really feel like a cliffhanger to me. This one, though? WTF? ...I mean, really.
I didn't buy the premise. And while I think the idea of TOTALLY RANDOM KILLER ZOMG is freaky, I thought he was a cheesy villian: The mask. The voice. Dude, I know I loved Masterpiece, and hello epitome of cheesy villain, but I had a different sort of view on Rothschild, I think. I think Rothschild became what he thought he should be. Anyway...
I hate that Hotch CRIED. And this is coming from someone who loves to see Hotch get emotional, but it felt off. He cried at a CRIME SCENE?!?!?!?! HUH? Really, WHAAAT? And I need to rewatch the scene because of the Rossi interaction, but I thought that scene was weird--but that may be because I was still going 'wtf Hotch is crying at a CRIME SCENE?!
Though, I must admit, I liked the shot at Gideon (*cough*) and the part where they walk away and Hotch calls him a drama llama, and Rossi says all his wives said that? SO MUCH LOFF.
Also, Rossi and Prentiss working that house together. *happy place*
I hate that they gave Morgan ALL THIS ANGST but only gave him about three lines in the whole episode. WTF was up with that? And the 'ZOMG IS IT MORGAN UNDER THE SHEET?!' fake out? Do they think we're stupid all of a sudden?
Also, Hotch working the profile for this long? Huh? Surely he's had more than one unsolved case? I realize this was his first as lead profiler, but still... dude. I just... wtf? I had that reaction a lot, you can see.
THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH REID. And he even had pretty hair this episode. I wanted to see it more. ;) I'm usually fine with not enough X-character, but this ep needed something for me, so there you go.
Anyway, yeah, I wasn't overly impressed. *sigh* I am a harsh critic, apparently.

Date: 2009-03-19 05:09 pm (UTC)I mean, it was better than "Brothers in Arms," but only just a little. And there was not really enough cast interaction for me; of course, I would have loved more Reid, but all the Morgan angst really came out of no where, especially considering he played a very small part in the episode overall.
And okay, here's my deal: they are missing out on so much here with Reid. Yes, I know that I psycho-focus on him, but he just isn't there like I think he should be. I understand that with last week, it really wasn't his place to be there for Emily, but Morgan has been there for him multiple times in the past, and now they have a somewhat shared experience (nearly getting shot by a psychopath), and really, would it kill the writers to have a little continuity and character development by having a moment between them? Okay, and maybe I want to see some OTP moments, but seriously. WHAT THE HELL? *pouts* And are they trying to convince me that he's back on the drugs with the way they've been having him look these past few episodes, or what? *pouts more*
So yeah, not the best episode ever. Not bad, but not that fantastic. *shrugs*

Date: 2009-03-19 05:29 pm (UTC)See, I wasn't bothered with Frank, but I know why that is. I was watching all those episodes during the writer's strike last year, so I didn't have to WAIT to see the resolution for very long. Had I been watching season 2 as it aired, it would have pissed me off majorly.
Someone else had mentioned there was pretty much no one in the ep but Hotch and Rossi, so yes, I agree on team interaction. Really, everyone else blended into the scenery. Until Morgan's suddenly integral moment, OH HAI RANDOM EMPHASIS ON HIM AT THE LAST SECOND.
it really wasn't his place to be there for Emily
THANK YOU! I was sort of flabbergasted that all these people were upset she didn't tell him. Um, WHAT?
Anyway, I hadn't really thought about how Reid could have helped Morgan out, but I'm not sure they even had time to squeeze that in during the time limit. Not my OTP anymore, so I can't say I considered them, but you're right. Maybe we'll see him and Morgan talk about it later? We can hope.
And are they trying to convince me that he's back on the drugs with the way they've been having him look these past few episodes, or what?
We can dream. ;)

Date: 2009-03-19 08:12 pm (UTC)I understand what they were trying to do with the team in this one, but it just translated into really choppy movements from scene to scene ... but since the last few episodes have done this successfully, I'm not too concerned if the occasional episode drops the ball. I just wish, for the Hotch!girls' sake, that they had done this one a little better.
I just wish that they'd let Reid be helpful in a situation without using his giant brain. I mean, he's certainly been through enough, but he's never really been put into the situation where he can sit down with another member of the team and help them through something, as they've done for him. While I understand that this may not exactly be in his nature, I just wish they would allow his character to grow a little more of a backbone and have someone else depend on him instead of him depending on his teammates. Not that I've thought about this for an extended period of time or anything. ;)
I MISS YOU AND YOUR SEXY SELF LIKE BURNING. :D

Date: 2009-03-19 06:13 pm (UTC)P.S. I definitely fangirl-ed big time when I saw Prentiss and Rossi in the same car, as with Hotch and Reid :)

Date: 2009-03-19 06:04 pm (UTC)I just think I've read too many books/watched too much television because it feels like the ending was a setup for Moore to leave the show. Possibly in the far (far) future or whatever, but it does. This is how they're going to kill Morgan off/send him off the deep end and make him retire.
I loved the Hotch/Rossi wangst scene (and I blame you 'n
I called the killer when I first saw him walking down the street. But again, I've watched too much television. Can I just say this, though? What kind of dumbass bus driver lets a guy on in the middle of the night, downtown, wearing a mask, with killer on the loose? He should have closed the doors until the guy took the mask off, he should have refused to let the guy on the bus, he should have done something because it is against every common sense protocol to let someone on your bus wearing a mask. At night! In the dark! With a killer out there!

Date: 2009-03-19 07:05 pm (UTC)I didnt like much of the Morgan stuff at all, I didnt see the point of it. Just to steal his credentials....its not like they look alike and he could pretend to be him or something so that was a question mark for me. Of course, again distracted by shirtless Morgan....they definitely found a good way to get me to stop asking questions last night.
I liked the episode but I did have some problems with it. Performances were good but there was a distinct lack of Prentiss and someone wrote something that it was Hotch-centric but had very little team interaction, unlike an episode like Pleasure is my Business. Still, I liked it a lot more than I didnt and the Unsub was sufficiently horrific though I thought the capture by the FBI and the escape was a bit lackluster, I would love to see him pop up again. The creepier/crazier the Unsub for me, the better.
I did not like the jab at Gideon, but I forgive Rossi because you know, he's Rossi.

Date: 2009-03-20 01:38 am (UTC)I don't know, I loved Foyett when he was being the victim. It was when he was being the killer with the cheesy mask that I wasn't so keen on. And honestly I loved this episode more for the multi-shipper's paradise that it was than the episodeness of it. If that makes sense. *G*
Like Alby pointed out, though, it would've been cool if Spencer had talked to Derek at the end, instead of Hotch. I see why they did it, to have Hotch showing that HE knows they have to get past it, but at the same time it's like me wanting Derek to have talked to Spencer at the end of "Elephant's Memory".
