Unless there's been an explosion of conversation at LJ since last night (I haven't checked my flist yet), I'm really surprised that more people in the CM fandom aren't talking about this. *sigh* To be perfectly honest, I hate citing CMFB, but they're the only ones with the story so far. Meh. You can still comment to my post @ TTC instead. ;) You love me. LOL

Still, I'm sad. Harold, not so much, but it's still bothersome, in Wilder and Fisher's cases especially (in spite of, honestly, not being all that enthused with Wilder's contributions this season). Boo budget cuts. Those two were, overall, TEH AWESOME. *sigh* I'm going to cross my fingers that we don't hear a goodbye from Bruner after only letting him give us one stellar episode.

'Stellar' is my word of the moment, btw. I blame it on writing Garcia a lot more lately. :P

P.S. ~21,000 words of Hotch/Garcia (with porn!) is done. ijs.

Also, I'll probably be posting my "soundtrack" for the Rossi/Prentiss What Happens in Vegas universe soonish. We've started writing an AU of that universe, and I want to get it up before the AU starts getting posted this month. :)

I've been talking to Jill on the phone. We've lost five writers total--Dan, Jay, Holly, Andrew and Deb.

Mark Bruner isn't a staff writer--he'd probably be considered freelance although he does work for the show, it's not specifically as a writer (an assistant, I do believe).

Unfortunately CBS has required cuts in writing staffs for most of their shows, so it's not just CM.

And yeah it sucks.

Oh, good, so there's no more.

I realize he's not, but I wouldn't have though Harold was a staff writer already, but I guess that was a false assumption.

Budget cuts suck big time.

But then, with the economy the way it is at the moment, nearly everyone is cutting back. *sigh*

Yeah, Holly and Breen Frazier were both hired on as staff writers last year.

I'm just hoping that we don't lose the quality of the eps we've been getting--fewer writers means they have to do more eps....I'm trying to have faith that things will be fine. *fingers crossed*

LOL I don't follow quite that closely. I just know who writes some of my favorites and least favorites.

I hadn't thought about that aspect, though. Less writers equals more work for the ones left. Ugh. I guess all we can do is hope. I'm assuming that part of the reasoning with writers like Wilder and Fisher was that they cost more. Still a shame they let some of the stronger ones go.

I guess there aren't many places to talk about it that won't possibly be read by the CM writers themselves.

I'm particularly saddened by Andrew Wilder's departure -- he wrote my all-time classic favorite L.D.S.K., which was what got me into the series in the first place, and also Omnivore. Deb and Erica also helmed many solidly good eps. Holly not so much, but I can imagine how this collective loss will affect the remaining writers' morale. :(

It's a sad and stark fact of the state of the economy when they start having to cut the dollar value of creative genius.

:(

Maybe I'm being dense, but I'm not really sure why anyone would worry about it being read. We talk about a lot of other stuff, and even bitch about writers/episodes in public posts. *shrug*

And yes, in a recent post at [livejournal.com profile] criminalxminds, someone asked what episode would you show to someone you were trying to get into CM. The very first one that popped in my head was L.D.S.K. It's one of my all time favs.

The same thing happened at the end of season 4 of The West Wing, I guess this is why none of it really surprises me. Hell, I am just happy Ed Bernero still has a job as NBC fired Sorkin and Schlamme who created the show, in addition to good writers and producers.

I am hopeful some new people who may turn out to be good will join or Ed might take the helm more. I dont know the future but nothing could make me not look forward to it.

Excellent on 21,000 words, though the pairing has me just a teeny bit frightened ; )

LOL--haven't we frightened you and surprised you with pairings before? ;)

I can't say I'm surprised so much as I'm saddened.

Who in their right minds fires Aaron Sorkin, though? O.o

1. ::sad:: for the writer loss. They'll be missed.

2. Soundtrack? YAY.

3. Hotch/Garcia with porn? I'm torn. I think of Hotch with Reid or Rossi mostly. And then on the other hand I love Garcia and also I read your Garcia/Rossi and really liked it. So I'll keep an eye out.

The two of you keep taking my list of 'no, I don't think I want to read that' and crossing stuff off. :)

I'm really sad about Andrew Wilder and Jay and Dan. Between them, they've written some amazing episodes. Holly Harold is less of a loss (although House on Fire was a big improvement on Brothers in Arms) and apart from Natural Born Killer, I didn't think Deb Fisher's eps were all that great. However, it seemed to be a good team of writers and I'm really surprised that Andrew is going.

*sigh*

Yeah, you guys have given me many jolts in the past that when I peek in I totally enjoy but I dont know......I can only wait and see *shifty eyes*

I dont know what NBC was thinking but the show lost it after that and sputtered on for three more seasons and I nearly cried I was so sad about what happened to it.

I think we keep crossing stuff off our own lists too! LOL At this point, I think I could ship almost anyone with anyone else. ;) ALMOST.

I think part of the sadness for me with Fisher is that she's one of the originals. Her episodes may not have always been amazing, necessarily, but they were solid. Jay and Dan did write a lot of great stuff, though, I loved Limelight and Cold comfort, especially.

I guess I'm still a little stunned. And not dealing with the reality of it all just yet. I'm very sad about this and hope as others have said that the quality of the show will remain the same - I know the remaining crew is wonderful, but with fewer writers, it will be very tough.

But then again, CM has had quite a rollercoaster ride the over the last 4 years, with unexpected cast changes, etc. and has remained one of the best (if not THE best) show on network TV. How many people said that the show would never make it without Mandy, and we see how wrong they were. So I'm taking a 'wait and see' attitude. What else can I do? I won't desert the show bec. of this, there is little out there I really do enjoy (Law and Order:CI is one of the few other shows I watch regularly). But I wonder, if things take an upturn (??) would they be able to rehire them? I hope so.

The writers going must be bad news, I don't know but I'm guessing even if one or another writer is credited for individual episopdes I'd have thought there would be qite a lot of colaboration and in that case five writers going would impact on all the episodes. I guess only time will tell but for sure it's a sad thing for people because it always seems the CM team is a pretty cool place to work.....
and speaking of writing colaboration, in a seamless seague to another topic, 21000 words of Ross and Garcia with naughy bits .......I can't wait!!!!
