What file type plays on DVD players? Is it .dvd? I'm downloading a "brown noise" file to help me sleep (I've been running the fan all night, but it's not loud enough, and I'm going to burn the motor out, so I want something I can loop and play in the bedroom DVD player), and it's only available in .mp4 and .wma. There's a converter I can DL to convert files to .mp3, .wav, .aac, .amr, .ogg, and .mp2. I don't know what most of those file types are for. Will any of them work in a DVD player? If not, is there a free converter anyone can recommend? Or would someone who has a converter that would work be willing to convert it for me if there aren't free converters available? I could probably move the CD player in there if that won't work, and if so, I assume .mp3 will play on it? *is sometimes clueless*

.mp3 works on most recent CD players, I'm told; the one in my (10-year-old) car, no.

My child says it is possible to convert .avi to something a dvd player will recognize, but I don't know what the file format is called, and also, he says it takes forfuckinever.

I have an alarm clock which plays "nature" sounds; I leave it playing "rain" or "thunder" all night. When the alarm goes off it switches to the radio (or an alarm noise).

http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3480732 looks like the same one. On mine the projecty time thing has never worked (but this was not what I bought it for so I don't care), and if you need the room really dark you might have to be inventive about the time display because it's bright enough to cast visible shadows (which doesn't bother me).

Most DVD players can play mp3s, but only from CDs. I'd download the .mp4 and burn it to a CD (most players should have this capability; I know Winamp does, which is what I use).

Oooh, that looks cool! I didn't know they made alarm clocks for that. That would be way cheaper than replacing a DVD player if I burn it out. And considering I can sleep in the day time with the room light, I think I'd be fine, though I prefer it darker, so we'd have to see. I wonder if the projector time thing would be big enough to read without my contacts in. I hate being nearly blind sometimes.

I use DVD Flick, following the instructions here. It's ever so easy to use - even I have made watchable-on-my-DVD-player DVDs! They're probably not as good quality as ones done the complicated way MrRuby uses, but, they're more than adequate.

EDIT: Ah, sorry, I should have read your post properly. If your DVD player plays normal CDs (try it out with one!) you can burn a .wma file to a CD using Media player, and that should do the trick just fine.
