This is the exact conversation I just had with C, my nice manager, who is somewhat computer/internet illiterate:

C: I have a question. It has nothing to do with work.
Me: Okay.
C: You know how people online have these acronyms? Like LOL is laughing out loud.
Me: Yeah.
C: And LMAO is... what, laughing my ass off?
Me: Yup.
C: Okay. So what does MILF mean?
Me: ...

Her response to the answer, when I finally gave it to her: Um... wow.

XD

This is so strange, I had a similar conversation on Thursday with a co-worker, one of the few nice ones, who just got Facebook. She was completely perplexed. Funny thing, I have had LJ for almost two years and I still dont know all of them. Someone wrote TBH in my journal the other day and it took four times reading the whole sentence before I figured it meant to to be honest. I am definitely still learning.

... I actually don't know what it means, either, but given the reactions to it I've seen in the past I don't much want to try looking it up >.>

what DOES it mean? XD

*Heh* That sounds like more fun than explaining the terms top/bottom to my best friend (who has no idea I write slash)--while we were watching a show called Kink. And then having to further explain that for gay men the terms meant something slightly different, unless, they were in a kink relationship. I told her I'd read it somewhere on the internet.

When my mum first got onto IMing, she thought LOL=Lots of love.

*giggles* I had the same sort of reaction when I explained why "teabagging" was probably not the term those protesters thought it was...

That made me *LMAO*. Sounds like a conversation I'd have with my mother.
