OH NOES! Not Reading Rainbow!

WAH! Reading Rainbow is going off the air?!?!?!

I just... I can't... I have no words. Granted, I hadn't even given the show a second thought in years, but I can still, to this day, sing the theme song. It was such a big part of my childhood. And it's going off the air after 26 years and tons of awards. *sigh*

That bums me out, man.

NOOOOO!!!!!!!!! I love that show. I was just singing the theme song like a week ago and telling my mom the last time I gave to PBS which was about two years ago, I specified my money go to help keep Reading Rainbow on the air because they were threatening it then. That's so sad. Little kids need to be encouraged and inspired to pick up books. A lot of it is the parents' responsiblity but I remember how awesome it was to see and hear about all kinds of books on that show. I am so sad.

It was on NPR when I left the apartment. I tried to listen in the car, but my reception of that station is crap in the car. Sounds like it didn't get it's funding renewed because they want shows that teach kids how to read (phonics, etc) rather than just encourage them to read. I think both are important, really, but kids learn how to read in school. Whether or not they pick up a book outside of school is another story. Man, this is depressing. :(

I loved Reading Rainbow when I was a kid! I still think it's a great show... and I agree that schools will teach HOW to read. This show makes it fun to read and points out great books... I can't believe they're taking it off the air!

I know, right?! They're going to put on some boring phonics show, and kids aren't going to think reading is fun at all!

That show is the only thing keeping children from being totally uninterested in reading.

Okay, maybe not, but with some of the literacy issues I've been seeing, you would think that the public needs all the help it can get.

They can't take away Reading Rainbow. *wibbles*

No kidding! That show got me excited to read when I was little, like it was so cool! I really am seriously depressed by this. :(
