I just tested myself. I average about 18 words per minute typing with all fingers. I average about 36 with just two fingers. Someone tell me this gets easier.

I havent tested myself in years but I was always much slower with ten fingers than with two or four or something. Those tests are a little crazy, I dont know anyone who types with ten fingers. Surely people do but I dont know any.

Now I'm tempted to test myself.

I sped up when I used a typing/game program I bought for my daughter; I like games so it helped. I only use 1 finger when doing numbers, but I don't care. I had to take a test to get my job and I need to be fast, so the games helped. If you don't NEED to be fast, then just do your best and don't worry about it! Make it fun if you can. I always say, if it has to be done, try and make it fun.

I have been playing this game called Typer Shark, but the lowest setting is 20 wpm, so I keep getting eaten. lol

I grew up typing with ten, though I tend to use about six or so most of the time (pinkies/thumbs are useless!). Have you tried typer shark? definitely will help speed you up!

Argh! Best of luck!

Another one to try is any of the games at sporcle.com They aren't meant specifically to increase your speed at typing as they're usually just trivia game, but since they're all timed you have to type quickly in order to win the game. Of course, I like games where the goal is to name all the U.S Presidents/U.S Capitals/Nations of the world...

Give yourself time - you've only been doing this a short time! You will get faster - it just takes practise.

I either type with all ten fingers; or with just my left hand if I'm feeling especially lazy.

It really does get easier, it just takes lots and lots of practice.

Heh, I'm sure it'll get easier with practice. My average touch-typing speed is 80wpm and I often have to wait for the computer to catch up *g*

LOL Yeah, I taught myself to type with a 1970s book and a Royal Sahara electric typewriter. I was so young at the time that I honestly have no real memory left of having to type with two fingers, I mean, that was about twenty-five years ago! LOL So yeah, I'm in the 80-90 wpm range and I love typing this fast except when someone starts listening to me and goes, "DAAAAAAAAAAAAMN!"

*sigh*

Hee! I get that too :D My Mum taught me to type on her typewriter when I was a wee thing, but I couldn't type on a typewriter these days, I'm too used to not having to put much pressure on the keys.
