Okay, so [livejournal.com profile] innerslytherin and I are ahead of the game (as usual) on our series fics, Fathers Are Not Born and Conscious of Our Treasures. We were recently writing the installment of FANB due for April (I think), which deals a little with childhood bullying. As a result, I (and my Spencer muse) were think a lot about Spencer's childhood... and I was thinking about canon and Diana Reid, when I realized that part of what was "canon" in my head had actually come from a fic, Coming Home by [livejournal.com profile] nebula99 (which I've recced so many times now that it's almost getting embarrassing *blush*). Since the fic happened to be so close to my personal ideas about Spencer's youth, and because we don't have a huge amount of back story (not so much we can't fill in gaps), this fic had become as good as canon in my head. I had to reread the fic to find out if Diana Reid had said what I thought she said in canon or the fic. It had been said in the fic, even as my head was trying to place it firmly in canon.

So it got me thinking, do you all have any fics that ring so true to you that they are as good as canon in your heads? Generally I wouldn't think of shippy fic this way, but I suppose it could be if you really believe certain ships are canon. Could be someone else's fic, or your own (we all have fics we wrote that are canon to us!), but I'd like to know what they are, if you have them! :)

Right now, "Midnight," by [livejournal.com profile] amichevole is really a canonical type fic to me. "Fathers and Sons" is another one. Stupid brain! I can't remember who is writing it.

Any of the episode tags written by [livejournal.com profile] buffyaddict13 are canon to me. Most of them are Reid-centric and include invented incidents from his childhood, his relationship with his mother, etc. But she has also done some that delve further into the psychology and possible backstory of the unsubs. They are all beautifully written and powerful. Just check out her CM fic here:

I agree; Buffy's fics read as canon to me as well.

Oh, yes! I read some of her fic during [livejournal.com profile] cmfanficawards and thought it was wonderful! I could easily see how they could read as canon. :)

Gonna follow this one, as I only read and write, er, not-shippy fic, and anywhere I might get a chance to read more CM gen is a good place to be.

I second the vote for Buffy's fics being canon ^_^ Also, a lot of what [livejournal.com profile] fuggybear writes strike me that way too, like they're things that could have happened between scenes, or after the cameras stopped rolling (at least, the stuff that's not AU). Other fics I take as canon, more or less:

After by [livejournal.com profile] calanthe_b really perfectly describes the immediate aftermath of Revelations.

Know you're not exactly a Jordan fan, but [livejournal.com profile] jadesfire2808 recently wrote a good piece, CTU, about her after the BAU that.

There was also a good JJ fic in Yuletide, Instruments of Faith.

There's more, those are just the ones I can think of at the moment. I also came up with a lot of stuff when writing an Elle-centric fic which has now become personal canon to me...I might take fanfiction a tad too seriously =P

Fuggybear not only locks all his/her fic, but also outright calls it bad. It may not be right, but I am such a 'if you don't have confidence in yourself, why should I have confidence in you?' person when it comes to fic... until someone I whose opinion I trust tells me it's worth reading, of course... but now if I wanted to read, well, locked. Access denied. :( *siiiigh*

>.> Yeah, not so much on the Jordan fic, but I will check out the others! Thanks! :)

LOL I have SO MUCH personal canon it's not even funny. :P I think we all do, and though I don't write much gen fic, it finds it's way into shippy fic all the time.

Anything by [livejournal.com profile] matociquala fits the bill for me.

I don't think she's written any new fics recently, but the ones I remember live a couple of years back on her 'geeks with guns' tag. It's seriously good stuff!

it's excellent especially the two stories about Spencer supplying his income by gambling whenever he is home in Vegas i think they're called "Dead man's hand" and Ace's something?

but sooo canon to me

but other than that i have a deep belief that reid so knows Charlie Eppes from numb3rs which i can't figure out where i got from

Agree. There's even canon possibilities! Reid went to Cal Tech (probably for grad school, but it's never been specified) for math, chem, and engineering and Charlie teacher at "Cal Sci" which is a blatant copy of Cal Tech .
