Lame comment, and thoughts on Conflicted

People are sort of lame sometimes. If you're going to leave me a comment questioning how appropriate my fanmix post was to post in a community, you could at least leave the comment up so I could reply. The only community I posted to yesterday that I wasn't sure about (paget_brewster), I PMed a mod and double checked that it was ok. The "cm fanfic comm" I posted to? Well the only comm I can think of that's primarily fic is MY fic comm. Well, mine and Innerslytherin's. And given the mix was related to a fic there and I wanted to tag it with the fic (and that Innerslytherin posted her Dave/Aaron mix that related to The Expansion of Two Natures there for the same reason), YES, I do think it was appropriate.
Okay. That's off my chest. Wouldn't have to do it here, but person DELETED their comment. I would have been SO much more polite if I could have replied directly, but that shit annoys me. *ahem*
Anyway, the husband got home last night at 12:30, and we watched Conflicted (the second time for me). I asked off work today, so I could stay up. I've found he's way more inclined to watch CM after the fact with me than he is to get his cute butt off WoW at 9pm on a Wednesday.
It's really sort of amazing how one's mood can affect the way someone views any given episode. Wednesday night I was in an utterly crap mood, and I spent most of the episode going "Argh, I knew it was a dude from the first scene! How lame!" I was alternately rolling my eyes and laughing at the screen, and when it ended, I went "Well, THAT was stupid."
I spent a lot of time yesterday wondering if writing my R&Rs for thetwocents.com was affecting my judgment, if it was making me watch the show like a critic instead of a fan, and I sat there trying to figure out a way to remedy that. I don't LIKE having to review episode that I didn't like. I mean, sure, I have a lot more to laugh at and make funny about the bad ones, but I still hate doing it several times in a row.
Anyway... last night? I was glad the husband was home after a lonely night and in a pretty good mood because of it. And I actually liked it the episode pretty well! It wasn't one I would consider top notch, but I think this new writer has a lot of potential.
I thought it was a little transparent, considering I knew the woman in the first scene was a man all along. It would have been a really cool twist, actually, if I hadn't known that, though. If I had written it (or directed it?), I would have cut all those interview scenes other than the last one, or done it differently somehow. Not only did it give it all away, but COME ON, what kind of shrink's office has lighting like that? Maybe they did that because they were filming, but... yeeeaaaah. Didn't work for me.
Jackson Rathbone did a pretty good job. I had no idea who the guy was until all the fangirl squee about Twilight followed the episode. Sort of funny, because I thought Adam looked a little 'vampire-ish' before I even knew.
There were also really well done call backs to Reid's experience with Hankel. I can't remember who on my flist said this, but it was really nice to get a new writer that showed a nice grasp of some of the history of the show. The scene on the roof was okay (except that the MUSIC, omg, was terrible and a little too loud--it was overpowering the scene!), but I didn't quite get the vibe that all the Morgan/Reid shippers did. YES, we have a strong history of Morgan seeking out Reid, and Reid opening up to him. But for one thing, we were back to Morgan calling Reid "kid" in that scene, something I just can't see him doing with Reid if they were a couple. Also, while Reid did open up a little there, he also physically shut Morgan out at the end of it. He turned his back on the conversation.
It's funny how our initial shipping instincts stick with us, though, because when Hotch and Prentiss are standing over Julie and Reid is trying to figure out where Amanda would go, I could practically hear Hotch aching for Reid. Hotch and Reid have a much bigger connection in regards to the Hankel case than Morgan and Reid did. Plus, as far as Reid opening up to Morgan? You know he doesn't open up to Hotch on cases because their LURVE would be SO obvious. Reid totally goes home and SPILLS HIS GUTS to Hotch though. You all know it; don't lie.
*cough* Wow, that got longer than I thought. That's all I got. LOL

Date: 2009-04-10 06:17 pm (UTC)I love re-watching when I am not sure if I liked it or not because the initial reaction to seeing it new, with Murry, squeeing or booing about this or that, sometimes I need to see it again alone to make sure of things. I dont know if that made sense but I enjoyed Wednesday's ep and I do have it on tape (I know, so old skool) so I will be watching it again this weekend.

Date: 2009-04-10 06:23 pm (UTC)I normally will rewatch most eps before I write the reviews, and most of the time I feel mostly the same about them as I did on first viewing, or something close to it. I think this is the first one I did almost a total 180 on. We finish watching, and I was like, "WTF? Why did I hate this last night again?" LOL

Date: 2009-04-10 08:16 pm (UTC)Also, re. muppetry muppetry from people on the internet - sometimes I can't believe people are actually for real. You keep waiting for them to turn round after an act of stupidity and go, "Just kidding!" Only they don't :-S

Date: 2009-04-10 09:32 pm (UTC)I only saw CM this afternoon. It wasn't a bad ep but you're right, it could have been vastly improved by some different direction.

Date: 2009-04-11 01:34 am (UTC)I think that Hotch/Reid is a more plausible relationship according to the show. The relationship between Morgan and Reid is nice and all, but they each hold back enough that one doesn't really see it as being a healthy, happy relationship. Hotch and Reid, however, look as though they work really well together and would compliment each other nicely in a long term relationship.
I think my biggest issue with Morgan and Reid as a feasible pairing on the show is that they never seem to reach out to each other at the same time. Either Morgan is reaching out to Reid, or Reid is reaching out to Morgan, but the two never physically seem to connect. There is a time or two where there is a physical connection, but not often enough for it to be a favorite pairing of mine.
I think that Wednesday's episode actually wasn't bad. He's a new writer and trying to get used to the show. There were somethings that I would have changed (maybe showing the person head on but using enough hair/makeup tricks to potentially confuse the audience would be one example), but overall it was pretty good.

Date: 2009-04-11 04:02 pm (UTC)Hmm, I never actually thought about it from the perspective of reaching out at the same time. Thing is, if only one of them is struggling, they wouldn't need to do that. They are both private people (Morgan especially), and I think that's just them understanding what the other one needs. I can definitely see the relationship, for sure, I just didn't see that scene as shippy.
I also think they work great as brotherly friendship or best friends, you know. I think Hotch and Reid compliment each other more easily as lovers, and I don't see them working as brotherly or best friend-ish outside of that. Outside of shippyness, I think it doesn't go beyond mutual respect and admiration. Maybe that's another reason for me to choose H/R over M/R, because I think the relationship between Morgan and Reid can be utterly beatiful without sex or romance. Also, I think it's harder to start a romantic relationship with a "best friend" type person, you know?
I don't know. I can totally see both ships, but in my head, Hotch and Reid work better for each other and have more to offer one another. :P

Date: 2009-04-12 12:54 am (UTC)I also really like Morgan/Reid and Morgan/Prentiss as friendships.
I partially think that it is because Shemar Moore is really good at showing how he feels about his cast mates. I mean, the most shippy thing I've ever seen is Matthew Gray Gubler telling a story about an incident in New York. I swear to God, Shemar is looking at him like he's in love or something. Or at least just wants to cuddle him.
But I could just have been wearing my slash goggles for that. And I'm not really in to RPS. It was just something that, if they included it in the show, I could totally see them as a romantic ship.
