My husband really hates emoticons. I sometimes use them in chat, anyway, because gmail animates them and I think that's amazingly cool.
Anyway, taking the long view as someone who has been reading your journal and only sees what you write, you seem to be gradually winning in a big struggle to have a good and happy life. I know sometimes you feel like you're only complaining, but a constant reader can also see the progress. So keep on keeping on. You can handle the difficult feelings by writing hilarious fan fiction. (No that wasn't self-serving, much.) ♥
