And I'm depressed again.

Also, I've had five calls so far from collectors today. If any of you want to give me $4,000 to get out of debt, that might do a lot for the depression. Heh.

Have you got a payment plan with your creditors? I don't know if you have free debt advice services in the US, but it might be worth calling one. I negotiate with creditors all the time on behalf of cilents and it makes it so much easier for them if someone else is dealing with it. Email me if you want to chat about this.

I've just been not answering. There's not a damn thing I can tell them except "I don't have you're damn money and I probably won't next paycheck. Or the one after that, and maybe not the one after that". I don't even know what someone could do for me if I can't even pay anything.

What I usually do is draw up a financial statement - basically income and essential outgoings, pro-rata what's left over into an amount for each creditor (or £1 per month if there's nothing) and make an offer of repayment.

Even if you can't pay much, paying a regular amount you can afford each month helps keep them off your back.

I don't know enough about the US legal system to offer to help but I can try and find out if there is an equivalent to what we do.

I'm sorry you have so much to deal with.

I LOVE calls from collectors. (NOT) I always want to say, when they say, well if you just send us (a piddling) $3649.53, you'll be all square! "OH MY GOD WHY DID I NOT THINK OF THAT?!

*eyeroll* Yes, I just didn't pay you because I didn't think of, wait, what was it? Paying you? Yes! That's totally it! Of course I have that money lying around!

IKR! Ugh. I haven't even been answering because they they start giving you all this scheduled payment crap, and I know I may not have their money on my next paycheck either!

That sucks, I'm sorry. Maybe what [livejournal.com profile] nebula99 said might be some useful advice. I know when my mom was in debt she did something like that. It was a long time ago but I still hear about those places.

oh dear. I know what that's like. i feel your pain VERY much.

i'm so sorry i can't help. it doesn't even help to hear "oh, it'll get better" cause when you're in the middle of it, it sure as fuck doesn't feel like it will.

please try to take care of yourself. be kind to yourself and do your best to heal your state of mind. everything else should start to feel less hopeless if you can do that.

*hugs*

If it makes you feel better, I think most of us are in the same boat. *hugs if you need them*

I'm in shitloads of debt too. What [livejournal.com profile] nebula99 said is a very good idea. There's an organisation in this country called the CCCS, which step in and help you negotiate repayments. But ignoring them never helps. As long as you're paying something, a lot of places will accept lower repayments.
