If I changed my LJ name, would you guys forget me? Has anyone changed their name and had a hard time with people remembering, or finding your fic? I'm considering a name change, but I would hate for people to not be able to find me fic later...

I think your old name will always redirect to your new name unless you purge the journal completely. The person who has the "slashgirl" user name now uses something like thefakeheadline, but if you try to use slashgirl, it redirects you to the current journal with the newer name. Which is why I'm still stuck with [livejournal.com profile] slash_girl. So, if you change your LJ, shouldn't be hard for people to find you. Not 100% sure on that, but it's how it seems to work.

The biggest issue I had when an f-lister changed their username is they just did it and didn't bother to announce it, etc, so when a new name appeared on my f-list, I thought someone had hacked my account and started adding people. I might be paranoid. >.>

:P You know what I say. You're Severity to me. *G* But I really do have a hang up about people changing their LJ names. I usually forget who they are. Not that I would ever forget YOU obviously, but still.

Like the first commenter said, if you use a rename token and keep your account, your old username will automatically redirect to your new one. When I changed mine I gave people due warning, so that my flist weren't all 'HUH?' when a new name popped up on their friends' page, but I think people will be able to find you from severity_softly, no matter what your new name will be. :)

(I did, however, take ages to remember that I had to log in under my new username; there was much, much frustration before the penny dropped as to why the old one was no longer working. *headdesk*)

How could I ever forget you? I love your name but I understand sometimes people need a little something new. Though I never would, the thought of changing my name has crossed my mind.

I'm with everyone else, anyone looking for severity_softly will be redirected to the new name for an appropriate amount of time to get it right in their brains. So they will be able to find your fic if they're looking for it. So I think if you just let your f-list know that its going to happen you should be just fine. I have 5 friends who changed LJ names and though it was a bit strange at first, it was something we got used to with time.

One thing I've found helpful for anyone who's changed their lj name is to mention the old name somewhere on their profile. Most of us go through periods where we don't check lj and we might miss the name change announcement, so having a reference somewhere else is very helpful.

I wouldn't forget you, but an announcement if you do change your name would be good.

Because I am blonde under the dye. ^_^
