I need an aspiration. Not personally, but I got a bunny on my original writing (actually, I've been tossing the idea around for a while now, but I just realized how to make it funny instead of just tragic :P) and I need a profession people aspire to be, dream about, etc. It has to be something that sort of has it's own "celebrities" in the field... only it can't be acting or anything to do with that whole Hollywood thing, you know? Something more "normal" than that.

Suggestions? I suppose if I really wanted to, I could make something like accounting seem glamorous, but I'd still like to hear your thoughts. :D

I should not have stayed up last night far too late to watch a movie on TV that I already own and could watch any time, especially after leaving the shiny intarwebz to go to bed early. Also, must have slept weird, because my shoulders HURT... Not to mention the injury I sustained while playing the game of LIFE the night before last still hurts. (I tried to melodramatically *headdesk* into the coffee table, and whacked my forehead into one of the little mountains on the game board... Heh, it was not pleasant, especially with all the laughing my husband was doing at my pain. ;) I also find it a little sadly fitting that I injured myself playing the game of LIFE. I'd *headdesk*, but it would hurt.)

Anyway, icons and a drabble today:

A/N: This tiny little canon moment always makes me giggle. I love watching Jimmy's expression change so quickly! (gives me a Hedergasm.)

well, if you've ever seen Jurassic Park you'll know that obsessive people can SO make paleontology into somthing glamarous.. "i read your book. i read this other book by a gay named bakker. blah, blah, blah Omni..." ::chuckle:: i actually have a book by bakker. called "raptor red"... anyways... ::facepalm::

firefighters? video game developers? journalists? cowboys (like rodeo cowboys not like brokeback, well, unless you wanted to, but i was trying to offer something serious. those rodeo competitions are tough...)

hope your head feels better. ::huggles:: ^_^

The two professions that come to mind first are cooking and politics. Good chefs can become very well known; publishing cookbooks and that sort of thing. Sometimes also television programs, but not necessarily. Politics, I don't know if that's such a "dream" profession or not, b/c personally I kind of think anyone who wants to be a politician probably shouldn't be allowed to be. But you can become at least locally well-known, and depending on how successful you are, regionally/nationally.

I thought about politics, but had the same reservations you did. Plus, I'm not confident I could write it realistically.

Cooking is a good one, though! I like that idea a lot! Thanks!

How about something in academia? Physics, while it baffles my mind, tends to produce the occasional rawk star.

I'd also suggest academia. Economics and Business schools have their own celebrities, depending on which university the prof teaches at, where they publish articles, who they co-author with, etc. Some even make it into the mainstream public (Freakonomics, Wikinomics, Integrative Thinking, etc.)

If you do decide to go this root, feel free to email me with questions - I work at an MBA school (as an employee not prof) so I might be able to help.
