severity_softlyCalling betas! ;) Firstly, I'm putting this at the top, because the rest of this will probably get a bit tl;dr. *g* Neither of the people I'd normally ask to beta will touch this, so I need a beta! Snupin, dub-con (that, in the interest of full disclosure, starts out as non-con), mwpp era (post-prank), with a dark!Remus. It's pretty short (less than 1500 words right now, though I do intend to flesh it out as much as possible, before sending it out. I doubt it will get over 3000, though, if even that.) Any takers?
The last few days have been exhausting. Have I mentioned I hate football season in Tennessee? Heh, I grew up in California. I went to baseball games (Dodgers, baby!). I like baseball and softball, though I don't follow it. Football? Eh, not so much, don't care for it, kthxbai. However, saying that in east TN is tantamount to blasphemy. East TN turns ORANGE during the fall. The first year I was here, I couldn't freakin' believe it and I learned more about Peyton Manning than I ever cared to. Well, working in hospitality has not made my aversion to the sport grow any less. Hey, if you like football, that's great. My whole family has been turned into football fans since moving here. But seriously, east Tennesseans will push football on you like it's crack if you ever even hint you're not a fan. It's bullshit. To me saying "You don't like football? How can you not like it? Have you ever even gone to a game?" is sort of like saying, "Oh, you're a lesbian? How is that possible? Have you ever even tried sleeping with a man?" but that's probably just me. Anyway, we were absolutely full on Saturday night because of the game, which meant I was slammed Saturday morning. The game started at 7 and the shuttle to the game left at 4, which meant everyone was trying to check in early, or calling to confirm late check ins, and generally bombarding me with things to do during my shift. The afternoon probably went smoothly for the people who worked, as hotels become a ghost town a couple hours before the game (heh, tailgaters) and stay that way until after the game ends, but I have little doubt that it SUCKED when guest started filtering back in Saturday night, often drunk and cheering (I heard UT won.)
Yesterday morning, after we had an almost full house, I am by myself at the front desk for checkouts. I had 108 checkouts. By myself. So I was VERY busy, plus we had no regular breakfast person so I kept getting called to refill things over there, and once you're over there there are five hundred more requests that get you STUCK over there, all while I can see a line forming at the desk. When I went to go get help, because there are parts of breakfast I don't know how to set up, I find BOTH managers and ALL of housekeeping just sitting around having a smoke break while I busted my ass. Did they even offer to help when I asked? No. "Just tell them we're out of it." Gee, thanks, I'll just go run around like crazy some more, you guys stay here and relax.
...plus, it's just a nightmare to get the really hung over people out of the hotel by checkout time. Hmph. AND our phone systems have been going haywire. They were dialing random rooms on their own, my managers office phone called me at the front desk even though no one was in the office (that was a little freaky, actually), and they were dialing the Best Western every three minutes on the dot. They were getting pissed at us, and there wasn't a damn thing I could do.
Oh yeah, and there was a FIRE in the laundry room! It was a little scary, considering how full we were. Evacuating that many people would have been a task. Fortunately it was only a small fire and the fire department handled it pretty quickly, but I got to breath in all the lovely acrid smoke that filled the downstairs for a bit. Maybe I got my "smoke break" after all. (You know, I don't care if you smoke. I used to myself. But it really irks me that I never take a break because the front desk gets stuck, but yet the smokers can use their habit as an excuse to take breaks even if they are desk clerks.)
I'm glad I have today and tomorrow off, though I just feel tired today. I was restless all last night. I couldn't sleep well and I think I was talking in my sleep. I distinctly remember trying to ask my husband, through a haze of deep sleep, "Do you think if my Snape was taller, he would act differently?" Which... is weird... and amusing because why am I thinking of my RP!Snape in my sleep? Then I woke up at 7:30 with such a pressing feeling of anxiousness that I got out of bed to come and make sure there wasn't anybody in my apartment that shouldn't be and checking the door locks before going back to sleep. O.o
I'm just hoping I can catch up on my rest and get some writing done this "weekend." I still have only the vaguest idea for SnuSa. It's sort of there, but I have no exact plot and I'm trying to figure out how to get the ending appropriately hopeful. I'm planning to slip off to Borders today to write a bit out and maybe an idea will gel doing that. *crosses fingers*
