I know logically that my sense of humor is still in my head, even when I'm mostly unmedicated (Oh, hai, new flisters, welcome to the crazy). I just can't find it.

That said, I got a dl and watched Lie to Me last night. I know, I know, it's Cm's competition, but I figure if it's a dl, I'm not contributing to the ratings against CM, yes? *G* And it's TIM ROTH, people. Tim Roth.

I'm going to cut just because that's what one should do with spoilers, even if I think none of you will read this because most of you were watching CM instead...

I liked it. I don't love it, though. I think I'll need a few more episodes to make my decision about whether to KEEP watching it.

Tim Roth, as expected, was awesome. (And he got to keep the accent! Whee!) "Are you going to try to have sex with my daughter?" LMFAO! I like Lightman, even if I don't think he's really such a good guy. I mean he is, but he isn't, if that makes sense?

I haven't really made up my mind on most of the supporting cast yet, though I like Torres. If I continue to watch the show, I hope that she becomes a more prominent role in the show. She's a strong character--dude, she was fierce in her first scene at the airport!--and obviously has morals to boot. Oh yeah, and she's HAWT. >.>

Loker was spotty. Once the 'radical honesty' was explained, he made sense, but it seems like it will easily become a rather old joke very quickly, and Foster was... well, not very exciting. I can see they tried to make her seem all cute with her pudding and her orange slushie (???), but she needs to develop more of a personality. Though, it's possible that she rubbed me the wrong way right off the bat when she told Lightman to "use his words". That's something a psychologist says to a 12 year old, not a grown man.

I was honestly reminded a little of the first season of CM as I watched the episode. Someone ([livejournal.com profile] matociquala, I think, in some random thread on some random discussion at the main CM comm) once said that the first season was a little like them teaching us as the audience how to watch the show, a statement I fully agree with. I feel like it was the same way here. The points felt a little beat over the head. Maybe they needed to be for some people, and it IS the pilot, so they had to lay it all out. Maybe this felt oddly paced to me because I'm so used to CM, but I think if they want to compete, they'll need to step it up.

The thing that kept popping up into my head as I watched, as someone who has acted before, was what an extra level of scrutiny those actors have to deal with. They have to make teeny facial expressions most people would miss and worry about every tiny thing they do, because the whole point of the show is solving crimes with body language (speaking of which, how quick is this going to get old? With CM they have a plethora of mental instabilities to work with, it's practically endless. Here? Body language. That's it. Heh.)

Anyway, liked it, didn't love it. Plan to watch it again. :) And now I'll stop procrastinating in writing my actual CM review by writing this one.

You know, I don't know much about the show, but the premise seems to me like they're trying to make their own version of The Mentalist, which my parents love and keep trying to get me to watch. Everyone thinks he's psychic because he can detect lies and stuff, but he just pays attention to the details.

I haven't seen the Mentalist, actually. I've heard it's good, though. I just never had the interest. If Tim Roth hadn't been in this show, I might not have bothered.

They talked about micro-expressions in this ep, which I've heard of before. It was actually pretty interesting, even if it felt like it was paced sort of strangely. I think that's not an unusual problem with pilots, though, trying to fit so much in to set everything up.

And The Mentalist seems like CBS' version of Psych, another show dealing with a faux-psychic who's very good at solving cases. *g* Lie to Me reminds me a bit of CM, since they both need to read people's body language.

I considered watching this too when I saw the first commercial for it because I am a HUGE Tim Roth fangirl and was peeved to see it came on the same time as my show. But with like 3 weeks of not so new episodes coming up, I can give it a chance. I usually rely on Fox to give me halfway decent shows that entertain me and are then promptly canceled. Does that damn station play anything anymore but The Simpsons, House, and American Idol?

Oh, that's right! I won't have to choose the next couple of weeks!

Hey, they also have Family Guy and American Dad. ;)

I wanted to catch the pilot when it debuted, but mom and I were not willing to miss CM to watch it. *g* What can I say... we love Criminal Minds. Luckily, I was able to watch the second episode when FOX rebroadcast LTM on a Friday night. Like you, I like Lie to Me, but I don't love it, yet.
