A question for those more computer savy than me...

HYPOTHETICALLY... if someone were to set up a fake email/LJ account, with a fake name, fake location, totally fake information, could someone you exchange emails with/talk to on LJ find you in RL? Email provider is hotmail, if that makes a difference. Um. HYPOTHETICALLY, of course. >.>

ETA: Btw, I guess I should say that I'm not doing anything nefarious or anything. I promise. No need for any of you guys to worry. I <3 you all.

Okay, that's what I thought re: LJ; it's the email I was the most unsure about.... And LJ always tells you if IP logging is on when you comment, right? Even in comms?

i believe so. and only the person who WROTE the entry can see the IP if i'm not mistaken.

One problem with hotmail: it's really vulnerable to the Russian spam bots. Be careful.

I have to admit, I'm not entirely sure what that could do to me. I'm good computerwise in some ways, but when it comes to security, not so much. :/

That could end up gaining access to your email and then your LJ and then to all the comms we mod. Actually, since you were using Hotmail when you started this LJ, you ought to go delete the hotmail email off your account...

I can read all the IP addresses on my comm, but that could be because I am a mod, and sometimes they change even though its the same person posting. But my lack of savvy seems to be on par with yours so.....you know....
