Do you not put vinegar on fish and chips when you eat it? Because I think that even trumps the audacity of 'I dislike pickles'. *sage nod*

NO. I don't eat vinegar EVER, except in tiny amounts in mayonnaise (and even then as little of that as possible).

Fish and chips need no artificial enhancements, not even salt. They should taste of fish and of chips, not of salt or vinegar. BLEARGH!!!

But the vinegar cuts the oil in the batter!

And smells good. >.>

But the greasy batter is one of the best bits!

And vinegar smells DISGUSTING. I can't even use it to clean things.

This conversation is making me feel sick... *g*

We used to clean the fish tanks with it when I worked at a pet store. I LOVED having the smell on my hands.

LOL Okay, okay, I'll stop. :P

I was staying with a friend earlier in the year (while the worst of the rekitchenation was happening), and she's very 'green', so she was using kitchen paper soaked in white vinegar in a plastic bag round her bathroom taps, to descale them.

I had to hold my breath every time I went to the loo for several days...

Not all pickles are made with vinegar. Some are brined. Perhaps you need to have your pickle horizons expanded.

LOL! Pickle horizons. That might be the best thing I've heard all day.

This fellow, Sandor Kraut, a gay Jewish healthfood guru, is a proselytizer for brined pickles, and he explains why here--with a recipe. I have not had the guts to try any of his recipes, though I bought the book and I am still a little in love with him after my first passionate crush that I developed on the first reading.

But I don't like salt much either! Do you know how long a pound of salt lasts me? YEARS.

Not a pickle person, then, I guess. Ah well, more for me.
