For any of you Criminal Minds people who care about personal choice, please go vote NO on this poll.

My reasoning here, but there are many other good points made as well.

I can't BELIEVE how many people are voting yes. I actually really pisses me off. They are talking about not only deleting posts, but BANNING people as well, over something that should be completely up to the poster's discretion.

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] sodoesracheal puts it more succinctly than I do: "Moderator of a community and ruler of a community are two different things. Some people have legitimate reasons for disabling comments. Taking the choice away is wrong."

And you know, I think this is what gets down to what bothers me the most about this. I can't even remember the last time I posted fic to that comm, and to the best of my knowledge I have never disabled comments there either. I haven't seen the point yet. Yet even as someone the rule would have never affected as of yet, allowing comments or not on a post that is not offensive is a personal choice (just as deciding whether or not to click a link to a discussion held elsewhere is), and taking away our choice is wrong and abuse of power by the mods.

ETA2: Fuck it. This is all just going to get wanky if I keep replying. I am angered by a couple comments made, but I have no interest in wank.

Vote NO. IJS.

That's why I am hardly at that place anymore. I took it off my friends list though I didnt revoke my membership.....yet. It's ridiculous. I agree with you, links to your journal do not need comments in [livejournal.com profile] criminalxminds, people will comment in your journal.

Clearly some people cant wrap their minds around that. You ban people based on the kind of comments and post they make, if they are jerks, flamers, troublemakers, not for disabling comments. Christ *facepalm*

Part of why I read my flist on a personal journals filter lately is because a lot of comms annoy me lately. But I do care about this anyway, because it should be my damn right to disable comments without getting deleted or banned, so long as I'm not causing trouble. *grumps*

And since you're still a member, go vote! :D

Btw, icon love. :)

I voted. Unfortunately, one of the mods over there mods [livejournal.com profile] hotch_prentiss with me. This was not my decision but its still the way it happened. I wish she would try some crap like that in our comm....I dont even know why this is an issue. Its a total non-issue that people are making an issue.

Oh, and the icon is a quote from The West Wing : )

*edits comment* Maybe I shouldn't say that publicly. >.> Don't want TPTB at the comm coming after me for what I say on my own journal. LOL

I joined and then just didn't add it to my watch list. LOL!

I think that's ridiculous. Why would someone want comments to a story on an announcement post in a comm? Every other comm that allows fic announcement posts ALSO allows comments to be disabled (AFAIK) so that comments are left on the actual story post. And banning someone for doing so, in a post that really isn't inviting discussion in the first place, is totally ridiculous and screams "power hungry mod."

I...think part of the reason I dislike this rule is the comma usage. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, SOMEONE DO SOMETHING ABOUT RAMPANT RUN-ON SENTENCES IN COMMUNITY RULES.

*eep*

The whole thing just feels silly and unnecessary to me. On the other hand, I don't spend a lot of time in that comm anyway, so maybe this is a SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT IS RUINING THE INTERNET FOR EVERYONE and I just haven't noticed.

OMG THE DISABLING OF COMMENTS IS NOT JUST RUINING THE INTERNET FOR THE LINKPHOBICS, BUT UNDERMINING SOCIETY AS A WHOLE. DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND? *giggles*

AND HERE I ALWAYS THOUGHT SOCIETY WAS CRUMBLING BECAUSE OF THE VIDEO GAMES AND THE SEX SHOWS. NOW I KNOW BETTER.

I've never understood people who comment on link-posts. I mean, maybe if it's a link to a discussion post, but what's with people who comment on fic announcements? Didn't they have to click the link to read the fic? So why not comment on that page if they were there already?

Though, the vibe I'm getting from that mod is that she's not really a big fan of the link-posts anyway, so maybe it's this or have a ban placed on link posts all together *shrug*

Well, if someone links to a discussion on their personal journal, they have to click the link too. I mean, if someone posts the whole discussion there, sure, don't disable comments, but I always link to my thoughts in my own journal. Sheesh.

And the exciting part of a discussion post is getting to read what everyone else said, but if you don't click the link, you'll only read what a few people said.

I guess I was more just thinking that if you posted even the initial question in the announcement post - like "I'm having a discussion in my journal about whether Hotch and Haley should get back together" (which seems to be a question that's floating around lately) - then people could comment in the announcement post with ZOMG TOTES! or EW NEVER! without actually reading the post. People can't really respond to a fic without having read it, I mean, unless they're just trying to be nice or something. That's where my confusion comes from.

Wow, could her reply to you been any more sarcastic? It's not really a discussion (the likes of which she is fighting for) if she's only really holding a conversation with those agreeing with her, and being sarcastic and shutting down conversation with those who don't.

Yeah, I was thinking of replying to them but you know what? I said what I think. They disagreed. Whatever. I can't be bothered to try and defend my original point.

I feel like none of the discussion going on at the moment is particularly productive, but hey, it's her comm, it's her party. (Actually I didn't know it was her comm until this whole thing happened; ablackpanther is the only one I've noticed making any modly posts there. But again, that could be my lack of observation).

God that woman just comes off like a big ol' cun....bitch.

She really didn't need to be as snarky to you as she was. I think she just needs to step back and take a breathe for a moment.

I think what might be mixing some people up is the wording of the question, I can see how it would easily confuse since when I first read it I was a little bit "huh?" at it. But I always have trouble with questions worded like that so it might be just me.

Yeah I ended up clicking the wrong one even though what I meant to put was no, and the sad thing is there's no way to change it back.
