I just had Thanksgiving in March.
We got a turkey from my work in November, and we never made it. We've been meaning to for a while, though, and we finally did. Er, well I did, and the husband got to eat it. This is the second time I've tried a turkey, and it's come out great both times! I'm not so good at carving (okay, fine, I butchered it), but I make a hell of a bird. And if anyone else is special enough (I'm not even sure how I mean that) to have Thanksgiving in the spring, I highly recommend Alton Brown's recipe. I wish I had taken a picture. lol
It's only a matter of time until I fuck one up, right? Doesn't everyone fuck up a Thanksgiving turkey at some point?

Date: 2010-03-22 01:21 am (UTC)Alton always has the best recipes, too.
And yes, there will always be ONE thanksgiving that goes to utter hell *laughs* whether you burn it, miscalculate cooking time, or, like we did our first year in the new house, set the brand new electric range stove on fire making home-made french fries for gourmet turkey sandwiches...it will happen. :) but even the ruined thanksgivings often turn into okay memories. And that's what counts. So, the moral of the story is....you should always have a fire extinguisher in the kitchen. :B

Date: 2010-03-22 03:53 pm (UTC)The only disaster we don't talk about was the first christmas in the new house when we just completely fucked up--i was scheduled to work full shifts xmas eve and xmas day and dad just cut corners and it was one of many blowouts. lol but that's what happens when you put 3 people in a tiny vacation rental condo for 3 months and then shove them in a big house...they go nuts.

Date: 2010-03-22 01:41 am (UTC)I haven't. I've messed up other foods. I even managed to fuck up pot roast once which is damned near impossible. But my turkeys have all come out well.

Date: 2010-03-22 04:23 am (UTC)I'm glad to hear it came out so well! And carving is hard..we usually just cut the meat off and put it on a platter. Hmmm....turkey and dressing and cranberries and gravy..I'm hungry! *hugs*

Date: 2010-03-22 03:31 pm (UTC)LOL We had turkey and green beans and mashed potatoes. It was close enough. That cranberry stuff is gross, though. :/
