I have iTunes gift cards and I can't decide what to buy. Any music recs? As long as they're not country, rap, really bad "adult contemporary", or teen pop stars/boy bands/etc, I'll give them a listen!
Nuttin But Stringz is hip hop violins. It's cooler than it sounds, I swear!
In fact...there's a youtube video ripped off of a segment they did on the Noggin channel (warning: there's a copious amount of cute going on).
I listen to strings when I'm writing Reid. So, Yo-Yo Ma or even Paul Dateh are really good. He's got a self-titled album out on iTunes, that I haven't gotten a chance to buy yet (destitution does not suit me, for serious); but if it's anything like his youtube stuff, it's definitely on my list.
- Phoenix Foundation: New Zealand band, who make poppy-rocky-electronicy-moody deliciousness. It is hard to describe. Kind of like Zero 7, but with weirder accents :-D
- Feist? If you like Feist, Gin Wigmore is awesome.
Weezer - Buddy Holly Belly - Gepetto David Bowie - Never Let Me Down " - Beat Of Your Drum Adam Ant - Strip " - Navel to Neck Cardigans - Love Fool Pixies - Here Comes Your Man Poe - Haunted The Posies - Love Comes Soul II Soul - Back To Life Boy George - Love Is Love The Presidents of the USA - Lump Enya - Amarantine " - It's In The Rain " - Smaointe " - Athair Ar Neamh Tasmin Archer - Sleeping Sattelite The Pretenders - Brass in Pocket Evanescence -Fields Of Innocence Cake - Perhaps (Perhaps, Perhaps) Concrete Blonde - Walking In London " - Someday Bad Astronaut - Linoleum The Breeders - Driving On Nine The La's - There She Goes Ministry Of Magic - Here In Your Car " - The Bravest Man I Ever Knew Habib Koite - I Ka Barra " - Din Din Wo
those are from today's playlist If you prefer older stuff, I can rec that, too.
Are you like me -- hate contemporary country, don't mind the older (Loretta Lynn, Patsy Cline, Willie Nelson)? Or do you hate all country?
I do like older country, but probably not enough to buy. I'd listen to it if it was given to me, though, for sure!
I actually have several on your list! (I have Strip on cassette tape, rather than CD/MP3, but my car has a tape deck, so I actually do listen to it LOL). I'll check the others out. Thanks!
Norah Jones. Iron & Wine The Weepies Great Big Sea (their live album is called Road Rage) Tempest (Celtic hard rock! Electric guitar etc!) Duffy's Rockferry album--"Sugar & Honey" and "Mercy" Tegan & Sara The Juno Soundtrack Rachmaninov's Piano Concertos, particularly the second one. Palestrina's Missa de Beata Virgine (or really any Palestrina. It's Italian church vocals; the harmonies are so gorgeous they raise the hair on my neck. Also it makes me think of Rossi, LOL) "All the Weird Kids Know"--Built by Snow "Sit Down"--James "Let there Be Morning"--The Perishers "Blessing"--Maura O'Connell Carbon Leaf's "Indian Summer" album. Best pickmeup ever. "If I ever leave this world alive"--Flogging Molly "Unsent Letter"--Machine Gun Fellatio
Ray Lamontagne- Trouble (whole album is REALLY good) Stars The Ahn Trio (A piano-violin-cello trio who do a lot of modern classical music, VERY good) Muse Adele
Thank you! I've always really liked Muse. They remind me so much of a certain era of Radiohead sometimes, so I'd always avoided them, but ampling them on iTunes, it sounds like it's not all like that. :)
